In recent years, he\u2019s added trading to the mix.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today, Chris Morales joins SteadyTrade co-hosts Kim Ann Curtin and Stephen Johnson to talk about how he got into trading, what strategies he uses now, and how he stays sane while trading and helping run the family bakery!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Traders of all levels will love hearing his unlikely yet inspiring story. And of course, there\u2019s his take on how trading is a lot more like tango dancing than you might realize.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Unique Trading Story of Chris Morales<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tango &#8230; baking &#8230; trading?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As odd as the combination might seem, these seemingly contradictory life paths are the result of a little serendipity. It\u2019s also due to the professions of his respective parents, who were not a couple during Chris\u2019s upbringing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the 1970s, his father has run a popular Albuquerque bakery. Through the bakery, he\u2019s been on the Food Network and featured on several other media outlets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As for his mom? She\u2019s a trained belly dancer and dance teacher. When she decided to add tango to her repertoire, Chris became her partner by default.\u00a0 As it turns out, tango was a great way to prepare for a future in trading.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Chris, learning to tango is an ongoing process. Just like with trading, you\u2019re always learning and constantly refining your art.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unlike say, line dancing. Chris describes tango as an \u201cactive communication between two different people.\u201d That\u2019s a lot like trading &#8230; You have to constantly adapt to the market.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chris Morales: From Baker to Trader<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While working in the family bakery, Chris struck up a friendship with a regular customer. His pal was a part-time professor of accounting who\u2019d mostly spent his prime years as a school teacher. He was also an accomplished trader. And according to Chris, \u201che even looked like Warren Buffett.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On his schoolteacher\u2019s salary, he got involved in average cost investing \u2014 and by the time he passed away, he was worth about $30 million.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This customer was Chris\u2019s first trading teacher. He showed him the basics of how to read a stock chart and how to execute an order &#8230; analog-style, with a check!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This initial interest in trading led Chris to look for more information online, and he came across <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.steadytrade.com\/ep68-tim-sykes-art-of-grinding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Timothy Sykes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He figured that he didn\u2019t have as much time to amass a fortune as his mentor, so maybe penny stocks could speed up the timeline.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Getting Started in the Markets<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When Chris Morales started trading, he knew it was going to be a challenge. He\u2019d struggled with a learning disability, so he knew he\u2019d have to work \u201cten times harder\u201d than anyone else. But he had faith that it would get it over time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His dedication didn\u2019t go unnoticed. He gained attention in the community as an up-and-comer, even capturing the interest of SteadyTrade co-host and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/stockstotrade.com\/steadytrade-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SteadyTrade Team<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> lead trainer Tim Bohen.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Making It Happen<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trading is no joke. As Chris puts it, \u201cIt\u2019s about the journey of self-enlightenment, the journey of yourself, and facing a lot of your personal demons.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He thought he was pretty mentally solid before he got into trading \u2014 but suddenly, everything was laid bare. Trading provokes different <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.steadytrade.com\/trading-syke-ology-with-tim-sykes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">emotions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> because it\u2019s faster and more volatile. There are highs from making money and lows from losing money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No doubt, it\u2019s a lot different from his bakery job. Baking is repetitive and follows a routine &#8230; Trading, not so much.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stephen and Chris talk about their personal awakenings regarding the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.steadytrade.com\/stephens-emotional-blowup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">emotions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> surrounding trading, and how it\u2019s helped them both find <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.steadytrade.com\/consistent-trader\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">consistency<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Strategy With Splits<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chris has a strategy that involves trading splits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With stocks, there are two types of splits \u2014 forward splits and reverse splits. Reverse splits are a condensation of the number of shares while raising the price per share. This captured his interest. He started to notice that reverse splits followed patterns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also started to get interested in what Kim refers to as looking \u201cunder the hood.\u201d He really dug deep into <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.steadytrade.com\/ep-149-listener-mailbag\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SEC requirements<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as well as Nasdaq and NYSE listing requirements. In his research, he observed how the market is governed for poorly performing stocks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Chris, once you understand the rules, you understand the currents controlling these stocks and what\u2019s necessary for them to grow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Traders won\u2019t want to miss his clear explanation of how reverse splits work and how traders can use this dilution to their advantage. Seriously \u2014 be prepared to take notes!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Developing Mental Strength<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No trader should miss this, newbie or accomplished.
